You've been doing the work for years.
Reading the books.
Going to the gym.
Meditating in the morning, or trying to.
Turning up to therapy, or to the conversations that feel like therapy.
Doing the thing that's supposed to work.
And you're still not there.
Here's what I've watched men conclude from that: that they're the problem.
That there's something in them that resists progress.
That everyone else seems to be moving, and they're standing still.
I don't think that's it.
I think the methodology stopped fitting.
Not because you grew out of it in some triumphant sense. Because you changed, and the programme didn't. It was built for a version of you that existed three years ago, or five, or ten. The weights still fit. The habits still look the same. But the man doing them is different, and nobody told you to notice that.
This is Wall 2.
Wall 1 is recognising that something isn't working. Most men get there eventually. The discomfort builds enough that they can't ignore it. They pick up a book. They start talking to someone. They decide to change.
Wall 2 is harder. It's the moment you've been doing everything right, by someone else's definition of right, and it still isn't working. Not because you're not committed enough. Because the map was drawn for a different destination.
The methodology isn't broken. It just wasn't built for where you are now.
What that means in practice: the work shifts. Not to adding more. To asking different questions.
What do I actually believe, as opposed to what I was told to believe?
Where am I operating from someone else's framework and calling it mine?
What was I trying to avoid when I built this particular version of myself?
These aren't comfortable questions. They're also not ones you can outsource to a programme.
The man who reads this and feels something shift already knows which part of his methodology stopped fitting. He just hasn't given himself permission to put it down yet.
That's the work.
Paul
P.S. If that last line landed somewhere specific, The Thing You Can't Name is built for exactly that moment. Comment WAITLIST, and I'll send you the link.
