Mastering the Post-Workout Soreness Talk

Ever had a new client message you in a panic the day after their first session?

"I can't walk down the stairs! Did I hurt myself??"

Here's the real deal...

That post-workout soreness (we fancy folks call it DOMS) is the number one reason your legends might think they're "too old for this" and never come back.

But it's NOT their fault!

It's YOURS.

The REAL Problem

When someone feels that surprising soreness after a workout, they think something's WRONG.

They don't know it's normal.

They don't know it's temporary.

They don't know it's actually a GOOD THING.

And if you don't prepare them for it?

They'll assume they've injured themselves or that their body "just can't handle exercise anymore."

That's when you lose them.

The Simple Truth

Here's what your legends actually need to know:

When muscles do something new (especially the lowering part of movements), they get sore.

That's it!

It's not complicated.

It's not dangerous.

And it gets better with consistency.

How to Talk About It

Forget the scientific jargon.

Nobody needs to hear about "eccentric contractions" and "microtrauma to muscle fibres."

Instead, try this:

"After today, you might feel some stiffness in your muscles. That's your body's way of saying, 'Hey, we're building something new here!' It's completely normal, temporary, and actually a sign things are working."

Then give them these three simple truths:

  1. The first time is ALWAYS the worst

  2. Moving gently actually helps it feel better

  3. It means your body is getting stronger

Make It Part of Their Story

Before they leave their first session, look them in the eye and say:

"Tomorrow, when you feel those muscles talking to you, I want you to smile. That's your body building your next chapter!"

The right explanation turns a potential quitter into a committed legend.
